About the Institute
Governance is learned best from those who have practised it.
Our purpose
The Statecraft Institute is an independent institute for the practice of governance. We bring together people who have led nations, institutions and organisations, and we turn their experience into teaching that others can use.
Our work spans three arenas that are increasingly bound together: the governance of the state, the governance of the enterprise, and the governance of the data and AI systems both now depend on. We start in the SADC region, including South Africa, and build towards the rest of the continent.
Independent by design
The Institute is not affiliated with any university. We partner with leading business schools to deliver our programmes, and we keep our curriculum, our frameworks and our Expert Panel as our own. That independence lets us work with many institutions at once, and keeps the teaching accountable to practice rather than to any single brand.

Director, The Statecraft InstituteSiyabonga believes the governance conversations that matter most belong at one table.
Statecraft, the boardroom and the governance of data and AI are too often held in separate rooms. She founded The Statecraft Institute to bring them together: former ministers, directors and technologists, at the same table. Her conviction is that data and AI can no longer sit below the board, and the Institute exists to explore them with those who have carried that accountability themselves.
